Léa Laflamme
I’ve been working with Inuit
communities of Nunavik, in northern Quebec, since 2009. I specialize in food
insecurity issues. I'm currently working in the Public Health department of
the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services as a Food Security
Officer.
I truly believe in the importance of involving community members and multi-sectorial actors in developing long-term solutions to improve access and availability of nutritious food in northern communities. I also greatly value traditional and experience-based knowledge to inform decision making in public health.
I coordinate the development of a regional food security policy, and take part in the organization of engagement sessions with people and organizations from different background, including hunters, retailers, airlines companies, community-based health workers and school staff to feed into this policy. I also work with different organizations in the region to co-develop and implement food security initiatives, including breakfast programs in schools and community kitchen.
