Christianna Jones is an Anishnaabe Kwe of the Black Water
Snake Clan from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island.
Jones is a graduate of Laurentian University where she
earned her BA in Indigenous Studies. She
is employed as the apprenticeship coordinator with Wii-ni n’guch-tood Labour
Market Services, the employment and training division, of the Wikwemikong
Development Commission. Her gardening
skills were learned from her mother who as a single parent raised four children
and fed many of their friends from what she grew. Jones enjoys plant
germination, gardening, harvesting and seed saving and offers community
workshops to help others learn these skills.
Jones believes that healing the four aspects of self will
come from a connection to the land. She believes that eating more locally grown
and less processed food is key to overall health and balance. Jones’ hopes and dreams are that all Indigenous
communities will have food centres that grow, harvest and store locally sourced
food for community access.
