Hasan Hutchinson is the Director General of the Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion within the Health Products and Food Branch of Health Canada.  As the focal point for public health nutrition within the federal government, the office strives to promote the nutritional health and well-being of Canadians.

Hasan is the co-chair of the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Group on Nutrition. He serves on a number of nutrition-related committees at the World Health Organization and Pan American Health Organization and has served on a number of health-related committees at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and at the United Nations. He also served as Chair of Canada’s Sodium Working Group.

Previous to his current role, Hasan was Associate Director of the Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and, before that, was Senior Advisor in International Affairs at Health Canada. Before working in the public service, Hasan was a faculty member in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill. His formal education includes a PhD in Quantitative Genetics.
