
Graham Riches
Graham Riches, is emeritus professor and former director of the UBC School of Social Work (1998-2008). His research lies primarily in the field of poverty studies, human rights and social policy within Canada and the Global North with a focus on the politics of hunger, charity and the right to food. He has practiced community development in the UK, SE Asia and East Africa and taught social policy in Hong Kong, Australia and Canada. His publications include Food Banks and the Welfare Crisis (CCSD,1986) and First World Hunger: Food Security and Welfare Politics (edited, Macmillan,1997). He was a founder member of the Vancouver Food Policy Council and has been a consultant to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. He co-edited with Tiina Silvasti First World Hunger Revisited: Food Charity or the Right to Food? (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014). He now lives on Vancouver Island where he wrote Food Bank Nations: Poverty, Corporate Charity and the Right to Food (Routledge, 2018).
