Annette Aurélie Desmarais is Canada Research Chair in Human Rights, Social Justice and Food Sovereignty at the University of Manitoba. Prior to obtaining her PhD in Geography, Annette was a farmer in Saskatchewan for over a decade. She is the author of La Vía Campesina: Globalization and the Power of Peasants and she has also co-edited three books on food sovereignty.
