
Janine G. Gibson has served organic agriculture across North America as an organic consultant and inspector since 1993. She has served on the Organic Technical Committee, helping to write the Canadian Organic Standards since 1999, striving to create clauses that reflect the four International Federation of Organic Agriculture (IFOAM) principles upon which the Canadian Organic Standard is based. Principle of Health- Organic agriculture should sustain and enhance the health of soil, plants, animals, humans and the planet as one and indivisible; Principle of Ecology- Organic Agriculture should be based on living ecological systems and cycles, work with them, emulate them and help sustain them; Principle of Fairness-Organic agriculture should build on relationships that ensure fairness with regard to the common environment and life opportunities; Principle of Care- organic agriculture should be managed in a precautionary responsible manner to protect the health and well being of current and future generations and the environment. Janine is a mother and grandmother and lives off grid in a solar and wind powered small mixed farm in SE Manitoba.
