
Mustafa Koc is a professor at the Department of Sociology at Ryerson University. He was one of the founders of the Centre for Studies in Food Security. Between 1994-1999 he served as a member of the Toronto Food Policy Council. He was instrumental in hosting the 2001 Working Together Conference at Ryerson University, 2004 Winnipeg, 2005 Waterloo and 2006 Vancouver Assemblies as the chair of Canadian Food Security Network and moderator of the Food Democracy list serve. He served as the interim chair of Food Secure Canada between 2005-2006 and as the member of the steering Committee between 2006-2009. He served on the committee involved in drafting the Food Democracy chapter of the People's Food Policy Project. He was also one of the founders of the Canadian Association for Food Studies and served as the President between 2005-2008. In 2017 he received the CAFS lifetime achievement award for his contributions to food studies. Currently he serves as a board member of Maple Leaf Centre for Action on Food Security and as the Director of Ryerson Centre for Middle East and North Africa Studies.
