Regulatory oversight of meat supply chains requires producers to conform to many standard industry practices. Tensions arise in particular for smaller producers who cannot flourish under the existing regulations for food safety or supply management quotas. As well, urban dwellers/producers are often restricted by municipal policies that limit animal agriculture in cities. Panelists will discuss challenges and opportunities in rebuilding sustainable meat supply chains from the perspective of a both rural and urban producers and a local butcher/restaurateur.
