Yasmin Strautins is a Policy Advisor at the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) which is a national non-profit Indigenous organization representing the political voice of Indigenous women throughout Canada. She is a passionate human rights activist and ally to Indigenous peoples in Canada. Yasmin specializes in research and advocacy relating to food security, poverty reduction, violence against women and environmental rights.

Yasmin oversaw NWAC’s engagement project on a national framework for food policy that culminated in the publication of a final report in May 2018. This was a collaborative project between NWAC and Agriculture and Agri-food Canada that produced key recommendations on how the voices of Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse people must be reflected in the forthcoming National Food Policy for Canada.

Before working for NWAC, Yasmin was employed as a Policy and Programs Advisor for the federal and provincial governments. She previously organized an intergenerational seminar series at the United Nations, on Indigenous Rights.  She obtained a graduate degree in Canadian and Indigenous Studies at Trent University. She also studied at The Paris Institute of Political Studies (SciencesPo) and Carleton University.
